Hecht Museum scientists find sketches hidden in Modigliano painting

FINE ARTS:
As part of a sweeping forensic study of his work for an upcoming exhibit at the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia, scientists at the Hecht Museum uncovered three hidden sketches in a painting by celebrated 20th century Jewish Italian artist Amedeo Modigliano. Using x-ray technology, the team discovered a portrait of Maud Abrantes, a member of Modigliano’s social circle. Amid attempts to bring that figure into focus, curators noticed two more silhouettes: one of a man and the other of a woman with her hair pulled up in a bun. The story was featured in major media outlets including Bloomberg and The Washington Post.  | >>READ MORE
