Guardians of the Blue: Data, Innovation and Marine Protection
“Our seas and oceans safeguard and nurture us. We are synergizing marine monitoring with technological innovation and market forces to protect the seas that produce our oxygen, provide our water and energy, and sustain life.”
– Dr. Yaron Bogin
The Project
The University of Haifa is establishing a Blue Technology Innovation Hub – a dedicated marine and maritime R&D center that will combine diverse expertise to drive solutions for urgent global challenges.
Housed in a new state-of-the-art building, it will serve as a vibrant meeting point for:
- Marine scientists, engineers, researchers, students, entrepreneurs, and investors working collaboratively.
- Multidisciplinary innovation in climate-tech, marine ag-tech, marine biotech, and precision-based aquaculture.
- Development of scalable solutions through cutting-edge tools in AI, big data analytics, acoustic systems, sensors, navigation technologies, mariculture, gene editing, and marine micro-organism fermentation.
Fundraising Goals
Philanthropic support will enable the establishment of the Blue Technology Innovation Hub, expanding our capacity to develop technologies to secure the future of our oceans and ultimately our environment. With philanthropic partnership, we will:
- Create a purpose-built facility that fosters synergy between academia, industry, and investment communities.
- Accelerate the inception, incubation, and commercialization of innovative and sustainable blue-tech ventures.
- Equip innovators and ventures with the infrastructure and resources needed to transform breakthrough solutions into impactful, real-world applications.
Meet Yaron Bogin
I am passionate about accelerating impactful technological innovations in marine and maritime fields to advance solutions that help mitigate global warming, address global change, and promote ocean conservation. I collaborate with academic researchers, students, entrepreneurs, investors, and industry and government professionals to develop blue-tech and sustainable agriculture innovations from idea to market.
I have 15 years of experience in developing and commercializing innovative technologies from academia, including technology and business development roles at Technion Technology Transfer (T3), the Alfred Mann Institute at the Technion (AMIT) – a medtech innovation hub, and at Accellta – a startup developing stem cell technologies. I have also served as managing director of two non-profit organizations, the Modern Agriculture Foundation and the Good Food Institute Israel, accelerating alternative protein innovations and the ecosystem. I hold a BA in Psychology and East Asian Studies from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, a BSc in Life Sciences from Tel Aviv University, and a PhD in Biomedical Studies from the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology.
