Legal Teams from the Faculty of Law’s Legal Clinics assist evacuees by bringing legal aid directly to their locations in Haifa and the surrounding areas
Lawyers and students from the Clinics for Law and Social Change at the Faculty of Law, under the direction of Adv. Haran Reichman, have launched a new initiative to offer free assistance to evacuees in Haifa and the northern regions. This program provides initial support and legal advice to those temporarily displaced from their homes, addressing issues such as education, social security, grants, and workers’ rights.
The teams initiated correspondence in advance of a formal petition to the Israeli government on behalf of residents from 10 northern settlements. These settlements (10 in total) are located within a 5-kilometer of the border and were not formally evacuated, unlike 16 comparable settlements that were. The government’s criteria for evacuation within this radius focused on ensuring residents’ safety and the ability to maintain a normal life routine. Dr. Haran Reichman expressed confusion over why the government evacuated 16 settlements while leaving 10 others, under similar conditions, untouched. The letter gained significant coverage in Yedioth Ahronoth and ynetnews. The residents are awaiting the government’s response.
