The Project
Prof. Qadan is promoting the establishment of a Center for Financial Literacy at the University of Haifa to empower households, small businesses, and high school students from underserved populations – particularly within the ultra-Orthodox, Arab, and new immigrant communities.
The center will focus on:
- Enhancing financial understanding and promoting responsible economic behavior.
- Encouraging informed decision-making in areas such as budgeting, credit, small-business management, and investing.

Meet Mahmoud Qadan
I am an Associate Professor of Finance at the University of Haifa’s School of Business. My academic background includes a BA in Economics from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, an MSc in Economics from the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, a CPA certification from the University of Haifa, a PhD in Finance from the University of Haifa, and a postdoctoral visit at Columbia University.
My research focuses on asset pricing, financial econometrics, capital market microstructure, and behavioral finance. I have published extensively in leading finance journals, including studies on financial ambiguity, oil prices, and investor behavior, and have received awards for research and teaching excellence.
In addition to my academic work, I am actively involved in promoting financial literacy and education, aiming to bridge the gap between academia and underserved communities.
