University of Haifa Receives Record-Breaking $50 Million Pledge from the Amir Family Foundation for the Establishment of the Herta and Paul Amir School of Medicine

The University of Haifa has announced a historic $50 million pledge from the Amir Family Foundation to establish the Herta and Paul Amir School of Medicine on the University’s Mt. Carmel Campus. This generous contribution aims to address Israel’s acute doctor shortage, projected to worsen by 2030 due to an aging population and regional conflicts, which could potentially compromise  healthcare quality and accessibility.

The new six-year Medical School program will emphasize comprehensive training across all care settings, incorporating cutting-edge medical technology, rehabilitative sciences, and personalized AI-driven care. Leveraging its robust pre-medical education, the School will draw on the extensive expertise within the University’s distinguished Faculty of Social Welfare and Health Sciences.

The Herta and Paul Amir School of Medicine is set to train the next generation of physicians, equipping them to lead and innovate in Israel’s healthcare sector. The signing ceremony, held during the 2024 Board of Governors Meeting, garnered extensive media coverage from prominent outlets including Times of Israel, The Jerusalem Post, and CTECH (Calcalist).
