SHORT BIO
I hold a bachelor’s degree from the Department of Political Science at the University of Haifa and a master’s degree from the Department of Jewish History. My academic journey took a significant turn upon completing my master’s degree, as it introduced me to the fascinating field of Jewish history, sparking my curiosity and motivating me to pursue further studies towards a doctoral degree.
Beyond my role as a doctoral student, I am proud to be one of the founding members of a new academic initiative within the Faculty of Humanities: The School of Regional and Historical Studies. This innovative framework brings together seven academic departments and an international study program, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and scholarly exchange. These include the Department of Israel Studies, the Department of Jewish History and Bible, the Department of Jewish Thought, the Department of General History, the Department of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies, the Department of Asian Studies, and the International Program for German Studies.
Re-Defining Your Path
(Hebrew Presentation)
“In a world increasingly driven by rapid technological progress, I want to highlight the enduring power of the humanities and how they can help recalibrate one’s individual life path. From my own experience, I’ve found that studying subjects like history, literature, and philosophy provides us with essential, practical skills—creativity, critical thinking, and a deep understanding of how history shapes our future. I leave you with this thought: the humanities don’t just enrich our minds; they actively shape the world around us.” – Maya Korbuly
FUNDRAISING NEEDS
The School of Area and Historical Studies is the first of its kind in Israel, designed to serve as a model of excellence in instruction and research at the national and international levels. It comprises departments devoted to the research and study of the past and present of the Jewish People, the Middle East, and, more generally, Asia, Europe, the Americas, and Africa. The School is part of the Faculty of Humanities, which integrates various fields of study: philosophy, politics, religion, languages, arts and literature, material culture, and history. Within the framework of the school we promote projects devoted to the preservation and documentation of the history of Haifa and northern Israel and their social, cultural, religious, and ecological fabric. Faculty members believe that an understanding of human history at the local, national, and global levels, together with an understanding of social processes from a historical perspective, are an essential component of the continued existence and growth of human civilization.
In the School we strive to encourage the students’ intellectual curiosity and their acquisition of theoretical and practical knowledge, as well as aid in the development of tools of critical analysis, which serve as the foundation of modern scientific thought. Towards that end, we would be grateful for your support. Thanks to your contribution we will be able to realize our goal of promoting multi-disciplinary programs to teach and train the next generation of educators and researchers by means of the transmission of our rich heritage of local and regional tradition, culture, and history.
