SHORT BIO
I am a Lecturer in the Faculty of Humanities’ Department of English Language and Literature, where I direct the academic writing program and the Writing Center. In early 2024, I organized the University of Haifa’s first interdisciplinary conference on English education, attended by over one hundred educators, administrators, and students of English literature and education nationwide. I received my doctorate from Yale University and have taught at the University of Kentucky, Boston University, and Sewanee-University of the South. My publications include an edited collection, several journal articles and reviews, as well as numerous essays in edited volumes.
In my current research, I demonstrate the relevance of the field of writing studies for the teaching of academic writing in literature classrooms. Students and instructors experience myriad pressures and expectations around writing assignments. Alleviating these challenges through a combined approach including genre awareness, rhetorical listening, and the campus writing center improves both performance and satisfaction. I also argue for the broader role of pedagogy within literary scholarship’s disciplinary discourse.
Providing the Key to English Proficiency
“Israel’s first Center for Excellence in English is more than just a language learning initiative—it’s a gateway to self-expression, academic success, and professional growth. With this new Center, our vision is to equip students, faculty, and staff with the communication skills they need, both in writing and speaking. By shaping the future of English education, we are preparing individuals to thrive in an increasingly globalized world.“

FUNDRAISING NEEDS
The Writing Center, founded in 2021, assists hundreds of students and faculty throughout the university who are enrolled in or teaching our English courses, offering workshops, tutoring, and one-on-one consulting sessions during the entire year. Its methods and orientation have been developed and are coordinated with the work of leading practitioners and theorists in the field of writing studies both within the country and internationally, including the Ministry of Education and other world-class universities. With additional support for research students and tutor-practitioners, Haifa would be the first Israeli institution to host a more substantial version of the current center, poised to address better the needs of its unique and diverse population, as it recognizes the vitality of English language skills for our students’ competitiveness in the global job market.
