A big “Thank You” from families living temporarily at UofH dorms

In the aftermath of October 7th, the University of Haifa extended its support to families evacuated from both the south and the north, offering them accommodations in student dormitories on Mt. Carmel and throughout the city of Haifa. Approximately 40 families, totaling over 150 individuals (including around 60 children), found refuge in these facilities. With many men called up for reserve duty, mothers faced the challenges of this new reality alone.

To enhance the families’ well-being during their stay, the dormitory management took proactive measures. They established connections with the municipality in the realms of culture, education, and welfare. Emotional therapy sessions were arranged for both mothers and children, and a club providing assistance with homework, along with social and cultural activities, was set up through the efforts of student volunteers and artists.

University units offer complimentary access to facilities such as the sports center, the Hecht Museum, the library, and services from the Interdisciplinary Clinical Center. The on-campus Chabad and the Student Union, along with local Rotary clubs, the Haifa Sports Association, bakeries, restaurants, and large entities showed remarkable goodwill through generous donations that included care packages with food, sweets, games, books, and Shabbat meals.
