Millions of bats and other flying animals are killed each year by wind turbine blades around the globe. A new interdisciplinary collaboration developed a drone-mounted technology that deters bats from approaching the generators. The technology transmits ultrasonic signals and lights to lead bats to higher altitudes. The study, led by doctoral student Yuval Werber and Prof. Nir Sapir (Department of Evolutionary and Environmental Biology) and neuroscientists from Tel Aviv University in collaboration with WinGo Energy, is the first in the world to integrate technologies including RADAR, LIDAR and high altitude acoustic recorders to track bats.
