Study identifies Parkinson’s nerve cell processes for the first time
New research led by Dr. Shani Stern (Sagol Department of Neurobiology) and international researchers from the Weizmann Institute, Salk Institute in San Diego, the Paris Brain Institute and the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in Germany, recently identified a number of neural processes that are common to different types of Parkinson’s disease. The researchers used an innovative cell reprogramming technique to identify malfunctioning neural processes common to both types of the progressive brain disease. They hope that this discovery could lead to treatments which will stop the spread of Parkinson’s disease. The study was published in the scientific journal NPJ Parkinson’s Diseases. | READ MORE
