The Project

Located along the Haifa shoreline, the Downtown Marine Research and Education Hub will house state-of-the art laboratories in marine biology, marine geophysics, marine biotechnology and marine technologies.  Researchers at the Marine Hub will play an important role in monitoring biodiversity and oceanographic parameters to establish a modern marine research profile for Israel.

The facility will also serve as a major educational outreach center for marine sciences and sustainability for schools throughout Israel.  A multi-tiered K-12 science program will introduce students to the challenges posed by climate change and pollution.  Visitors will enjoy a variety of interactive exhibits, live demonstrations, workshops, innovative programs and awe-inspiring films that showcase our local marine ecosystems and the importance of sustainability.

Located on the shoreline of the Bat Galim neighborhood, just a short distance from Haifa’s downtown port area, the Marine Hub will be built in the iconic Casino Building.  In addition to providing the Leon H. Charney School with an additional coastal facility, it will serve as an important cornerstone for urban renewal in Haifa.
