Mental health research finds link between loneliness and diminishing trust
An international study investigating the relationship between trust and loneliness led by Prof. Simone Shamay-Tsoory (Department of Psychology), with researchers from the Universities of Bonn and Oldenburg, has found that persistent loneliness is associated with reduced trust in fellow human beings. While investigating to what extent loneliness relates to interpersonal trust, the researchers discovered changes in the activity and interaction of various brain structures, especially the insular cortex.
