Prof. Gur Alroey is the incoming Rector of the University of Haifa
Prof. Gur Alroey (Department of Israel Studies) is a distinguished historian specializing in Jewish history in modern times, specifically Jewish immigration at the turn of the 20th century. A faculty member for nearly two decades, Prof. Alroey has served in a number of leadership positions at the University including Dean of the Faculty of Humanities (2016-2020), Founding Director of the Ruderman Program for American Jewish Studies, and Head of the School of History (2011-2016). He begins his three-year term on April 1, 2021.
Prof. Alroey replaces Prof. Gustavo Mesch who has served the University with great dedication and commitment as the University’s Rector since 2016 and previously as the Dean of the Herta and Paul Amir Faculty of Social Sciences.
